Over the last decade and a half, we’ve developed a soup-to-nuts process that springs from our experience working with exceptional families.
How We Approach Our Work
"After completing over 100 media projects, we know that families come to us with certain expectations. Our value is as much "behind the camera" as it is about orchestrating a well-thought out experience that takes into account family dynamics, branches and generational perspectives, and different versions of history. We’ve developed a set of best practices that allow us to achieve exceptional results."
We are happy to speak with you, a family office professional, or another trusted advisor to discuss your project idea, answer any questions and provide you with a sense for possibilities.
We send you more in-depth materials to review and share with your family and stakeholders. We email you a link to our password-protected portfolio page of work samples.
Participants feeling a "click" with us is imperative for a successful project. If you are interested in having us draft a proposal, we will first want to speak with at least one family member to get acquainted.
We meet with you and your family to build trust and rapport. We spend time with you to fully understand your goals and ideas. We gather all the information needed to understand your project possibilities.
Timeframe: Generally, 4-6 weeks
Deliverable: We synthesize our learnings and provide you with a Story Possibilities Planner.
Intangibles: You gain a 360° understanding for what impact you want make with the project, what media will best serve that goal, and who and what to capture.
We begin by drafting a film treatment or podcast show plan. We build out your production team, conduct pre-interviews, and work to schedule film shoots or podcast recording dates. You met your team during a kick-off call. Film crews develop shot lists and call sheets. Podcast teams sketch episode themes and guests.
Timeframe: 2-8 weeks depending on project complexity
Intangibles: We create a structure for stories, memories and memorabilia that would otherwise be loose threads. We reduce your stress and overwhelm, and offer guidance and clarity.
We interview your family, colleagues, and beloveds based on the film or podcast show concept we collaboratively developed with you. For films, we create illustrative footage of important homes or spaces, events and interactions.
Timeframe: We often film between 3-4 days. For gift-based projects, we sometimes film for just 1 day. For more comprehensive projects, we may film for 8-12 days, spending 2-4 days in different locations. The timing is based on your availability. Podcast productions take a variety of schedules.
Deliverable: We share short film snippets with you shortly after filming so you can get a sense for what we captured.
Intangibles: You did it! You finally captured the stories and people who matter most.
We edit the story, or series of stories, into a compelling film, video series, or podcast episode. Editing includes storyline, music selection and mixing, color grading, photo editing and animation and more. We include two rounds of client feedback and corresponding edits into all of our projects. Your feedback is essential to us.
Timeframe: For films, we generally require 4-8 weeks of editing depending on the project complexity. For podcasts, individual episodes can generally be edited within 4-7 days.
Deliverables: For films, we provide you with a first draft of your film. The film's length is based on our agreed upon scope. After receiving your feedback, we provide you with a second draft and again respond to your feedback. Finally, we deliver a final cut for your approval. For podcasts, we deliver may work with you to refine drafts of episodes, or if you prefer, we may publish fully polished final cuts, all depending on our agreement and work flow.
Intangible: You see your story on the screen. What was once a jumble of ideas, memories and old photos is now a well-told, compelling film that will be beautiful gift for the ages.
We provide you with a password-protected environment where all your media resides. From there, you can download and share it. For films, we gladly will help you organize a movie screening in your chosen venue.
Timeframe: We generally complete film projects 3 months from the date of delivering your first draft.
Deliverables: Your ongoing podcast show episodes, your final film(s) and the organization of your movie screening.
Intangibles: a stronger connection with your family, the strength of shared narrative, the articulation of your values, and the honoring of all that was and is still to be.
